Need something to read during dinner?
If you visit the Kindergarten classroom you will see our Sight Word Wall. Taped to this wall are words that we've been learning to recognize quickly. When the K kids chant, "Super Duper Sight Word" three times, a special notebook opens and we discover what new word we will learn.
But today, we decided to make Sight Word Placemats. That way, when the kids are sitting at their dinner tables they can practice reading words that they see in class (and in books). On one side of the mat are words that K kids are expected to know by the time they finish Kindergarten. On the other side are more challenging words, ones that they should know by the end of first grade. Since we have a wide range of reading levels in our class, the placemat will provide a challenge for everyone.
Everyone agreed that the best part was using the laminating machine. Now that the mats are laminated, we need not worry about crumbs or spills!
