Kindergarten

Kindergarten is an exciting year filled with opportunities for learning, growing, and gaining self-confidence. The class is designed to incorporate play, exploration, social development, and academic readiness skills such as listening, thinking, and questioning as important aspects of the school day. Teaching is holistic and math, art, literacy, and Jewish values may all be integrated within a particular lesson. The K year fosters open inquiry and critical and creative thought, where children are encouraged to ask questions of the text, understand the strategy involved in the math problem, invent the scientific experiment, or tell a story.
At CBI, we believe that children are individual learners; each one gaining skills at his or her own pace and responding to different styles and methods of teaching. Our philosophy centers itself on the whole child. We aim to nurture and strengthen each child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical abilities through our K program. We believe that children learn through active play and exploration in a multi-sensory environment and are supported by a developmentally appropriate curriculum so they can:
- learn to trust themselves and others
- learn self-discipline
- gain an awareness of others and the ability to feel for and with them
- become self-reliant and self-starting
- become increasingly responsible for their own behavior and safety
- form creative ideas
- extend basic moving, manipulating, and communicating skills
- listen with heightened and prolonged attentiveness
- acquire factual information
- develop the capacity to conceptualize and represent ideas
- derive pleasure from the process as well as the product
- show the desire to try, the courage to fail, and the persistence to continue their effort
Kindergarten is held Monday-Friday from 8:30am-3:00pm. An optional afternoon program is also available.
