Fourth Grade Teacher Job Description: 

Join our team as we shift the paradigm of elementary education. Our forest school model brings students to learn both core academics and environmental education. Students develop life skills and have ample opportunities for collaboration, exploration, and independent learning. We seek to empower children to understand their place in our community and a deep respect for our environment.

Teacher-directed lessons and child inspired projects balance the core subjects of language arts, math, science and social skills with other important life skills such as inquiry, creativity, confidence, critical thinking, risk-taking and self-discovery. The natural world is our springboard for building a strong foundation of academic, social, and problem-solving skills. Our curriculum emerges through students’ interests and outdoor investigations. All of these endeavors help to foster a love of learning.

 

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Teaching certification or experience, Masters degree preferred
  • Comfortable in the outdoors: regularly getting dirty, interacting with local ecology/ flora and fauna, tolerance of natural elements
  • Have a sense of wonder with nature and the ability to integrate the natural world into the curriculum.
  • Ability to think creatively and collaboratively about ideas, materials and spaces

About Us:

Our school opened in 2020 as an innovative response to the pandemic. We learned that when communities are clear in vision and hope, the terrain can be managed no matter how difficult.  Our educational experiment was successful beyond our imaginations. We learned that the outdoors provides the perfect tapestry for innovative learning experiences..Our school serves children ages 18months – 4th grade during the school year. We operate 80% outdoors on 73 private acres attached to over 200 acres of public land, in all seasons and all safe-weather conditions.
